Growing up and living in Charleston has allowed me to eat at many of the best
restaurants in the city. Whether you’re looking for sit down dinner, late night,
or Sunday brunch, there’s a restaurant for you. While in the Charleston area,
whether you’re a visitor or a local, be sure to try out these top restaurants
in the city.
For a special occasion
or date night, Halls Chophouse is a great place to have dinner in the heart of
King Street. From the service and food, to the atmosphere, you’ll be sure to
have an exceptional experience at Halls Chophouse. Halls not only has the best
steaks in town, but offers something for everyone. Their menu includes everything
from fish to burgers, to chicken, veal, and pork. Vegans and vegetarians can
have their dinner prepared as they specify, as Halls wants to accommodate every
single one of their guests. My recommendation for dining at Halls is defiantly the
Filet Mignon, especially since that’s what they are known for. Pair that with
the Lobster Mac-n-Cheese and you’ll be sure to enjoy your meal. They also offer
a large selection of national and international wines, as well as a full bar
menu including an outstanding cocktail menu.
Looking for a more
relaxed place for dinner, possibly outside on the water? Fleet Landing is
located on the water and has a great menu for the seafood lover.
McCrady’s is another
great spot to hit for dinner. McCrady’s has been serving Charleston for over
200 years, with great service and even better food. Nothing stays the same for
long at McCrady’s, as they change their menu a little bit every day. One item
that they almost always serve is the Roasted Quail and it is by far one of the
best things on the menu. The Quail is served with beet, raspberry, and arugula
and will leave you wanting more. Also be sure to try the Beef Tartare served
with crispy onion rings and white anchovy. McCrady’s also offers a Chef’s Tasting
menu which includes 3 snacks, 7 courses, and optional wine pairings.
For the late night
drinkers and eaters, be sure to visit Craftsman Kitchen and Tap House. They
have full bar but are known for the large selection of craft beers. They serve
food till 1am and their menu has changes daily. For late night bar food, I
really enjoy ordering the Squid Fries and Teriyaki Wings. Pair that with your
favorite craft beer and you can’t go wrong.
After a long weekend,
Sunday brunch can be a relaxing and fun experience for anyone with their family
and friends. Poogan’s Porch has a great brunch menu and a relaxed atmosphere. I
suggest starting your meal with the Fried Green Tomatoes served with cajun
cream. For the main course, Chicken and Waffles served with blueberry Texas
Pete maple syrup. You’re mouth will be watering, and you’ll be waiting till
next Sunday Brunch.
