Rock 'n' Roll Mardi Gras Tour w/ Cowboy Mouth & Junior Brown Thu., Jan. 28 The Windjammer Singing drummer and ringleader Fred LeBlanc and his New Orleans band return behind a live DVD shot at the legendary Roxy Theatre in Los Angeles called The Name of the Band is Cowboy Mouth and a 12-song collection of rockers and anthems titled Fearless. Austin, Texas-based singer/guitarist Junior Brown the master of the twangy "guitsteel" opens at 8 p.m. - Music
Jucifer Fri., Jan. 29 The Village Tavern Drummer Ed Livengood and guitarist Amber Valentine first performed as a rock duo in 1995 at a backyard keg party in Athens, Ga. 15 years later, they're signed to a major label, touring the country in a huge RV, performing in cool clubs and music halls with an oversized blue-acrylic drum kit and a "wall of sound" comprised of bass cabinets and over 20 guitar amps. Yikes. Jucifer return to the Village Tavern in support of their recent album L'Autrichienne (Relapse/Alternative Tentacles). 9 p.m. - Benefits + Fundraisers
La Dolce Vita Auction Fri., Jan. 29 Memminger Auditorium Spoleto will celebrate its 30th anniversary at this year's La Dolce Vita auction. Proceeds of the event will benefit the Spoleto Festival USA Orchestra. The silent auction will begin at 7 p.m. and will feature a sumptuous hors d'oeuvres buffet and cocktail bar. Champagne and gourmet sweets will be offered during the live auction beginning at 8:30 p.m. - Music
Marcy Playground w/ Malfunction Junction, Colourslide, White Rhino Fri., Jan. 29 Halligan's Restaurant & Bar Big in the late 1990s, New York-based alt-pop power trio Marcy Playground scored a massive hit with in 1998 with "Sex and Candy" (from their self-titled album released in 1997). Souvenir: A Fantasia on the Life of Florence Foster Jenkins Fri., Jan. 29, 8 p.m. and Sat., Jan. 30, 8 p.m. Village Playhouse Souvenir is a heartfelt, funny look at the limits of self-perception and the unpredictable nature of friendship. It is the story of an eccentric New York socialite and tone-deaf diva who thought she was a great soprano. Her witty, wry accompanist, Cosme McMoon, chronicles Florence's unlikely rise to cult status, which culminated in an infamous sold-out Carnegie Hall performance in October 1944. - Dance
